Full Profile of Christina Wong

INTRODUCTION

Collapse

Christina Wong is the first female writer and music artist with visual impairment in Hong Kong. She is a talented optimist who has started learning vocal, piano and music production since an early age and is active in participating in volunteer services.

Christina suffered from Rubella when she was eight months old, resulting in infections to her optic nerves which caused visual impairment. She received six corneal transplantations from three and half years old to eight years old, but serious damage of the optic nerves eventually caused a complete loss of her eyesight.

However, visual impairment did not discourage Christina from working hard in music composition, performance and life education. She has cooperated with many music artists and people from different sectors, with a hope to spread positive messages of social harmony through arts, as well as to share her experience and encourage people to stay strong, optimistic and positive when facing hardships.

Christina published her book “If You Believe in Fairy Tales” in 2004 where she hoped the inspiring fairy tales could encourage teenagers to overcome difficulties and keep on going. The first edition was sold out since the launch and was widely covered by media. Christina is still active in writing and music creation up till the present.

Having vocal lessons from a sophisticated teacher Ms. Yim Wai from The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts for 7 years and with the help of Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (ADA), and obtaining guidance from the famous singer Miss Chui Wai, Christina was able to have her singing skills improved. Apart from holding her first mini concert during the event “A Tribute to Mum” on Mother’s Day in 2005, she also performed at the launching ceremony of “Loving Memory – A Memorial Book of Dr. Marion Fang” (Honorary Life President of ADA)and was invited as a performing guest to sing the theme song “Sharing and Harmony” (Melody by Lowell Lo; Lyrics by Cheng Kwok Gong) with Mr. Steven Ma at the opening ceremony of “The 1st International Festival of Inclusive Arts” in 2006, where her lovely voice helped promote the spirit of inclusive arts in the community. She has well cooperated with people from different sectors to promote the message of harmony at the event "Lions and I: Christina Wong Arts for Everyone Concert" organised by ADA in 2008 and represented Hong Kong to take part in the “Asia Pacific Wataboshi Music Festival” in Shanghai and Korea in 2005 and 2009 respectively.
